some different devons

Simon's photos on this page show Devon in four different moods, and none of them are the corny cream-tea-or-paddling-at-Paignton sort of thing. They each could be the start of a brilliant Devonshire walk.

From left to right they are:

exeter

Exeter Cathedral from the first floor lounge of the old Royal Clarence Hotel, now called the abode@exeter (it's a classy boutique hotel in a great location and with good food... we'll give it a Best Place entry soon).

Stroll round the historic cobbles of the Cathedral Close  - you're walking in the footsteps of Drake and Raleigh (although the restaurants and bars weren't quite the same then...)

north bovey

North Bovey is one of Dartmoor's prettiest but least visited villages. When we get round to it North Bovey (pronounced Buvvee by locals) will get its own proper entry as a Best Place walk

ilfracombe

Dear old Ilfracombe. Even at sunset you can still smell the chips frying but it's a place we love despite all its shortcomings. It won't be a Best Place but the walk over The Torrs to Lee Bay will certainly be

fingle bridge

And the Hunter's Path at Fingle Bridge is just about the best walk in the world. Yes, alright, it will be a full Best Place when we can get someone to write the words. If you fancy doing it yourself drop us an email at thetravelwriters@make-sense.co.uk
